Fascist Tommy Robinson is back in Telford tomorrow, Saturday 3 September and anti racists and anti fascists will be opposing him.
Robinson is attempting to use the publication of the report into the appalling instances of child sexual exploitation in Telford to mobilise his violent supporters.
Unlike on three previous occasions police have threatened to use section 12 and section 14 public order notices to force local anti racists and campaigners to assemble away from the centre of town (the imposed assembly point is below).
Weyman Bennett co-convenor of Stand Uo To Racism said
“Robinson the former leader of the violent fascist English Defence League cares nothing for the victims of abuse and simply wants to use their suffering to promote his own violent and Islamophobic agenda, he wants to divide this community”.
Ash Silverstone, Shropshire and Telford Trades Union Council, said
“The actions of the police, effectively equating local trade unionists, faith groups and anti racists with fascist Tommy Robinson will only help to legitimise him.
“On three previous occasions police have allowed us to assemble in the town centre, an acceptance that we are not equatable with Robinson.
“It will only give the far right more confidence to see us treated this way and threatened with arrest”.
Shropshire & Telford Trades Council and Stand Up To Racism will now assemble by 1pm and meet at the police imposed assembly point on the grassed area to the left of the entrance to the Yellow Beech Short Stay Car Park, TF3 4BX.
