Communities unite to celebrate Drag Queen Story Hour and defy the far right!

Drag Queen Story Hour celebration in Oxford, 23rd August.

Over 300 people rallied in Oxford on Tuesday to show their support for Drag Queen Story Hour. The protest turned into a beautiful carnival of resistance and LGBTQ+ pride with hundreds of people dancing in the streets. Rallies have been held throughout August, including Oxford, Norwich, Leeds and Brighton in response to the far right picketing these inclusive events at local libraries to spew their divisive message of hate.

Drag Queen Story Hour provides fun and interactive shows for kids with talented drag performers and has been touring around the country this summer. But the fascist group Patriotic Alternative have been abusing families and children attending these events to try to stir up hatred against LGBT+ communities. Stand Up To Racism took the initiative to hold family-friendly, celebratory counter-rallies and defend the Drag Queen Story Hour performers and audiences, coming together with LGBT+ rights campaigns, trade unions and community groups.

The fascist Patriotic Alternative forces were outnumbered and humiliated, and the communities came out stronger and united against hate.
