Update: Stand Up To Racism/Care4Calais Winter Appeal for refugees

Following the successful delegations to volunteer with refugees in Calais last October and December (as part of the Care4Calais winter appeal), Stand Up to Racism is organising another visit on Saturday 10 February.

We’d like to invite you to join us, whether you’ve never been or whether you are an experienced volunteer.

You can volunteer for a day, a few days, or even a week if you can (10 February is the start of the half term for many schools and FE colleges).

Many people will be able to self-organise but if you need help or advice then we can help plan your trip and help you to get involved.

If you’re going out for the first time it can be useful to chat to someone who’s been before in case you have apprehensions about what it’s going to be like.

Since the “Jungle” refugee camp was bulldozed last year, it is more important than ever that we raise awareness about the plight of the many refugees who still arrive everyday on their journey to the UK.

As a volunteer you can help by sorting clothes and making up food parcels in the Care4Calais warehouse, driving out to distribute supplies, talking to refugees and much more.

There are cars going over on Saturday evening, after the Stand Up to Racism Trade Union conference, details here and on Sunday (11 February) morning.

A student minibus will be leaving on the Sunday morning and returning the same night.

Care4Calais volunteers will be there to meet you and get you signed up for different activities. They will also be holding a briefing on Sunday late afternoon with a film showing and refugee speakers.

If you’ve not been over to Calais before, please consider coming this time.

The more people that go over, the more chance we have of raising awareness back in Britain, putting pressure on the government to fulfil their promise to bring those who have a right to claim asylum in the UK here swiftly and, more importantly, to cease collaborating in the inhumane treatment of refugees and most important of all, to close the camps and let the refugees in.

For further information please contact us at info@standuptoracism.org.uk Even if it’s just to say you’d like to go. We can help plan your trip.
