Stand Up To Racism thanks all supporters for yesterday’s #StopRwanda Twitterstorm organised by TUC, Care4Calais and Stand Up To Racism. We trended number 3 in the United Kingdom trends during the 11am to 12 noon Twitterstorm, but also #StopRwanda remained in the trends list for hours after it ended. This, along with the fantastic day of Britain-wide day of protest on 16 July, showed the scale of solidarity for the campaign and huge potential to mobilise to stop this vicious policy. This widespread energised, angry and determined capacity to mobilise over the issue must be galvanised and escalated.
Today, 20 July, the date of the court hearing in the case to determine whether the Rwanda policy is unlawful, with the legal challenge led by Care4Calais and the PCS union, has today been confirmed as Monday 5 September.
Therefore we can now confirm that the major protest outside the Royal Courts of Justice in London will go ahead on Monday 5 September.
For outside London, we call on groups to take part in the protest online, in workplaces and with local actions.
The original Ask letter to unions with what support we are requesting has gone to all unions nationally, and it can be used at a local level too is available and shareable HERE
Model motion has been updated accordingly, and can also be copied and adapted HERE
Updated graphics, the #StopRwanda poster, and PDFs for leaflets will continue to be updated HERE in this shareable Google folder, these can be used to publicise the actions, and we ask your union to please circulate.
Below is the #StopRwanda poster with logos.
👉 In London we call on everyone who can to join us outside the Royal Courts of Justice on Monday 5 September for a major protest and rally. We are keen for a strong union presence outside the court and a sea of banners. On the day, there will be a presence from 9am onwards, and we would appreciate any support stewarding (8 30 – 11.30 am / 12 noon – 3pm). The key time is the rally 1pm to 2pm. We are asking every local group in London, and all unions, organisations and supporting campaigns to put out the call for volunteers to help with stewarding on the day, and to bring delegations with banners.
