London’s diverse communities are under attack.

The biggest wave of hate crime since records began has been accompanied by the resurgence of a vicious far right intent on whipping up hatred and stirring division.

A spate of Islamophobic attacks on visible Muslim women have taken place, including at a recent far right demonstration in London where a bus driver was prevented from doing her job by Tommy Robinson supporters waving placards welcoming Donald Trump.

Across Europe and the US, an internationally organised far right which combines vicious Islamophobia with virulent antisemitism is gaining prominence, influence and power.

A year ago, we stood together following the Islamophobic attack on Finsbury Park Mosque carried out by Darren Osborne. Our communities stood together following attacks on synagogues, gurdwaras and individuals trying to go about their daily lives. When Nazis sprayed Swastikas in Dollis Hill in April of this year, the local community came out united against the vicious antisemitism those responsible intended to spread.

Boris Johnson’s disgraceful comments on Muslim women who wear the Burqa has further intensified the current wave of Islamophobia. It has given support to those on the far right who wish to dehumanise and criminalise the Muslim community, and further threatened the right of women to dress as they choose without fear of harrassment.

At this crucial moment it is vital that all those who value our diversity unite against racism, Islamophobia and antisemitism and stand up to the rise of the far right.
