On Saturday 1 June “Tommy Robinson” is planning to show his latest film opposite Parliament. Robinson is a fascist who has a history of involvement with fascist and far right organisations. He was a member of the British National Party and founded the English Defence League.
This “film screening” is his latest effort to court notoriety and restore his reputation among the far right. Disgraced ex Tory MP Andrew Bridgen, a conspiracy theorist, is supporting Robinson.
This comes in the context of a toxic climate of racism. In Britain we are heading into a general election where the government’s key priority is to demonise migrants using the Rwanda plan and dangerous rhetoric. And internationally the far right are set to make big gains in the European elections, and there is a very real prospect of Trump returning to the White House in Novembner.
Robinson is still smarting from recent court appearances over his actions in recent months in London. He has numerous convictions and the ex English Defence League leader wants to position himself as a key figure for the future.
He claims his film is about “two tier” policing. But the reality is that Robinson wants to use Sat 1 June to pursue the agenda he has for years – spreading racism, islamophobia and division.
We, the undersigned, are united against Robinson’s hatred and we stand together against attempts to divide us. We encourage a united opposition against Robinson and his far right friends in London on Sat 1 June.
