TUC Congress 2015 featured a succesful fringe meeting hosted by Stand up to racism and Unite Against Fascism which was sponsored by the NUT, CWU and PCS. Speakers commended the Refugees Welcome demonstration at the weekend. Maz Saleem reported back from the delegation to Calais about the inhumane indignity of the slum camp, contrasting this with the wealth of Europe. Zita Holbourne of PCS NEC and Black Activists Rising Against the Cuts talked about the impact of the economic crisis on young black people. Mohammad Taj of Unite the Union NEC reminded us that we will need migrant workers’ contribution in order to sustain our pensions. Tony Kearns, CWU Senior Deputy General Secretary spoke of how migrants and refugees are the scapegoats being used to distract attention from those responsible for the economic crisis. Kevin Courtney NUT Deputy General Secretary celebrated the diversity of the classroom and outlined how proud NUT have been to work with Stand up to racism and UAF.
