Rishi Sunak’s government has put the scapegoating of refugees at the centre of its attempts to divide and rule the growing opposition it faces for its handling of the cost of living crisis. Sunak and Braverman’s racist ‘Stop the Boats’ campaign goes alongside their Illegal Migration Bill and the Rwanda Plan to deport asylum seekers.
Despite the growing death toll in the Mediterranean and the Channel the government is committed to its ‘hostile environment’. Its racist rhetoric has opened the door to a wave of protests targeting refugees by the far right across Britain.
Seventy five years on from the arrival of Empire Windrush they also deny the existence of the institutional racism highlighted by the Black Lives Matter movement. But there is growing resistance to their racist agenda.
We have to mobilise the anti-racist majority against them. Join us at the Tory Party conference on 1 October in Manchester on the demonstration called by the People’s Assembly to tell Sunak and Braverman ‘refugees are welcome here’.
