Organised by the Peoples Assembly Against Austerity
Stand up to Racism will be joining the Stop Blaming Immigrants bloc at the end Austerity Now national demonstration this Saturday. A wave of racism in the form wrongly blaming immigrants for cuts to welfare, housing and public services and Islamophobia is accompanying the £15 billion worth of cuts announced by the government. Within a week of the general election the government announced: that it would not allow sanctuary in Britain for refugees fleeing Africa, a new Immigration Bill that attempts to pit British workers against immigrants, the repeal of the Human Rights Act and an Extremism Bill and with very worrying consequences for civil liberties and freedom. This is the government’s attempt to blame, divide and distract as it implements cuts that will mean the greatest fall in living standards since the nineteenth century.
