Scrap Donald Trump’s state visit to Britain
Mass organisations from across society formed the Stand Up to Trump Committee today.
The meeting was attended by a broad range of trade unions, women’s groups, Muslim organisations and political campaigning organisations united in opposing the policies of the US President and his planned visit to Britain. The Committee aims to campaign locally and nationally to get Theresa May’s invitation to Trump rescinded because of his racist, misogynist and warmongering policies, and his climate-change denial. It aims to build the broadest-possible movement against Trump, and to work with everyone interested in organising a huge public protest should he visit London as the government intends.
The Committee has also called the Stand up to Trump National Organising Summit in London next Saturday(February 18) to rally support for the campaign, and will demonstrate outside Parliament two days later when MPs debate the invitation to Trump.
The meeting was also attended by observers from Jeremy Corbyn’s office and the TUC, and it pledged to work with all other campaigns and movements set up around this issue.
The attending organisations interested in establishing the campaign were:
