Refugee Solidarity delegation to Calais Sat 17 October

Stand Up to Racism is organising a second solidarity delegation to Calais this Saturday 17 October against the backdrop of a racist offensive against migrants and refugees from the government and right-wing press.

Theresa May used her conference speech last week to attack refugees in Europe as “bogus” and said high levels of immigration harms the cohesiveness of society. But the overwhelming solidarity shown by people in the UK and beyond, as well as the resilience of the refugees themselves has the potential to put the government on the backfoot. In the Guardian this week senior lawyers, former law lords and retired judges published a statement a condeming the governments response to the crisis see here.

It is crucial we step up our solidarity with migrant and refugees who are living in atrocious conditions in Calais with winter soon to be upon them.

If you have collected cash donations in workplaces, communities and union branches you can write a cheques to Secours Catholique and L’Auberge du Migrants and bring them with you on the delegation travelling to Calais on 17 October. Bring union/campaign banners and signs to send a message to Cameron that migrants and refugees are welcome and need to be let in. DSCF8751

Arriving in Calais – getting to the camp
From the tunnel, you head toward Calais and follow all the signs toward the port/ferry…. you look for exit 2 called ‘Z.I. des dunes/Oye-Plage’ which is an industrial estate. As you exit, you can see the jungle on your right. Park just beyond the bridge on the grassy area or any of the side roads before the camp. Lock your car and walk over to the camp where we will meet up with stewards, people living there and French organisations.
