Midlands TUC – Stand Up To Racism ‘Confronting the rise of racism’ summit in Birmingham – #RacismOut of #GE2017
Around 130 people attended the Midlands TUC, Stand Up To Racism ‘Confronting the rise of racism’ summit in Birmingham.
The event brought together trade unionists and campaigners from across the region to plan a strategy to roll back Racism.
Amongst the speakers were Lee Baron from Midlands TUC, Roger McKenzie from Unison, Saffiyah and Saira who confronted the EDL in Birmingham and Steel Pulse’s Basil Gabbidon.
The conference agreed to initiate a major event on opposing Prevent,working with MEND and the MCB, to build for the counter protest called by Unite Against Fascism against Britain First on 3 June, and to support the national day of action to ‘Keep Racism out of the election’ on 10 May with a ‘speak out’.
The day also saw the launch of Poets Against Racism!
Basil Gabbidon and Zara Sykes ended the day with ‘Get up Stand Up’.
This was a really positive event, now onto the campaigning.
