Nahella Ashraf from Stand Up to Racism spoke at the protest. She said “One in three people have done something to help refugees because people do care – unlike the government.

We need to build the biggest anti-racist movement this country has ever seen, we need local groups in every town and city to push back this government.”

On Wednesday, actress Lily Cole joined hundreds of local children on Millennium bridge to demand that the refugee children are let in.

Initially, the government refused to enact the Dubs Amendment that pledged Britain would take in child refugees. But campaigning from groups including Stand Up to Racism has forced the government to allow some children into Britain.

Estimates from Citizens UK say that around 200 children have been let into Britain in the past week. But the demolition of the Calais camp will put the 1,300 unaccompanied children at risk.

We need to continue the campaigns across the country to demand that Britain provides safety for more refugees. If you’d like to be put in touch with your local Stand Up to Racism group, check out the list of local meetings here or email us at info@standuptoracism.org.uk
