It has only been days into the new government and already a multitude of proposals are causing concern for anti-racists.
These include:
- The repeal of the Human Rights Act (see former Director of Public Prosecution Keir Starmer MP’s critique of this proposal here).
- The counter-extremism bill – Theresa May was humiliated under scrutiny to define extremism, where she could only cite the example of the so-called ‘Trojan Horse’ conspiracy in Birmingham schools, which the education select committee has found to be groundless.
- The rejection of the proposal to support and accept refugees crossing the Mediterranean from Africa. Italian Minister Sandro Gozi has criticised Britain, highlighting that refugees are fleeing beheading, starvation and famine. Britain currently takes a sixth of the refugees that Germany takes.
