Report by Lorna – Brilliant show of unity against racist hate in Bathgate today (Saturday, 16 November). Local residents were joined by anti racists from Edinburgh, Glasgow, Dundee and took to the streets, with stand up to racism banners representing three cities, anti racist chants and hand made placards from local residents that read, ‘Nae Nazis in Bathgate!’
We made our voices heard, rallied in the town square and heard powerful speech from Rania Obead, co-convenor of stand up to racism Edinburgh.
Everything pointed to the Nazi gig having been cancelled. But it was important anti racists rallied regardless. Today is a victory for anti racists everywhere ✊🏾✊🏿✊🏽
We will always be there to stop the Nazis
Tonight we showed (and in freezing temperatures!) that wherever there is word that Nazis or the far right try to mobilise we will be there to stop them and show they are not welcome. Well done to The National newspaper, helping to put the pressure on to stop the Nazis with their front page story.
And massive well done to all who came down. It was only in August this year that SUTR and the Trades Council mobilised more than 100 antiracists outside the refugee hotel in Bathgate and repelled a threatened riot at the hotel. We will be back, and in big numbers to support an ongoing and growing antiracist movement in the city and in all our cities 🔥 NAE NAZIS IN SCOTLAND! ✊🏽✊🏿✊🏾✊🏻
