Mobilise the anti racist majority – UN Anti Racism Day global demonstrations Sat 19 & Sun 20 March

Mobilise the anti racist majority – onto the streets for UN Anti Racism Day global demonstrations Saturday 19 & Sunday 20 March

There is just one month to go until the March Against Racism in London on Saturday 19 March, marking UN Anti-Racism Day. There will also be demonstrations in Glasgow on Saturday 19 March and Cardiff on Sunday 20 March.

Boris Johnson’s crisis ridden government is determined to use racism to divide and rule and deny the very existence of the deep institutional racism that the Black Lives Matter movement exposed.

The government’s catastrophic handling of covid and the cost of living crisis disproportionately impact on African, Asian, Caribbean and all black minority ethnic communities due to structural and institutional racism.

Recent studies show continuing high levels of Islamophobia in society and racist attacks are increasing for all communities but attacks on Chinese, East & SouthEast Asian communities doubled in the last two years. Jimmy Carr’s racist slur regarding Roma communities mass murdered in the Holocaust shows just how far we have to go to eradicate racism.

However the support for England footballers subjected to racist abuse and taking the knee shows that we anti-racists are the majority.

National trade unions including Unison, Unite the Union, NEU, NASUWT, PCS, FBU, CWU, TSSA, RMT, Aslef, NUJ, BFAWU and others are mobilising and supporting our events. Other groups such as Muslim Engagement and Development (MEND), Jewish Socialists’ Group, Black Activists Rising Against the Cuts (BARAC), Stop Asian Hate UK, Muslim Association of Britain (MAB), Society for Anglo Chinese Understanding (SACU), Labour Assembly Against Austerity, Arise and many more are also mobilising for UN Anti-Racism Day.

We cannot allow the Tories – or anyone else – to force us back into silence about racism. From the disproportionate deaths of black people from Covid-19 – to Johnson’s continued defence of Britain’s brutal colonial and slaveholding past – we are taking to the streets to demand justice and oppose the racist offensive.

The government’s Nationality & Borders Bill criminalises asylum seekers and threatens the citizenship rights of 6 million people.

The police bill targets the Black Lives Matter movement and the GRT community – more police powers will strengthen racist stop and search, and the government refuses to admit its ingrained Islamophobia – highlighted by the sacking of Nusrat Ghani MP.

Johnson’s so-called “war on woke” and racist rhetoric have once again given fertile ground to the far right with the likes of fascist Tommy Robinson back on the streets.

Internationally we face the growth of racism, Islamophobia and antisemitism – with the Far Right on the rise.

That’s why uniting against racism and the #MarchAgainstRacism in London & Glasgow on Saturday 19 March and Cardiff on 20 March are so crucial.

Join us on on the streets as part of a day that will see international #WorldAgainstRacism protests.
