Stand Up To Racism (SUTR) sends its thanks and solidarity to every union, organisation, campaign, and every anti racist who lent their support to the TUC and SUTR Twitterstorm on 10 March which got the #MarchAgainstRacism demonstrations in London and Glasgow (19 March) and Cardiff (20 March) trending.
With Boris Johnson and Priti Patel’s racist offensive intensifying in 2022, and the threat of racist populism, rhetoric far right and fascism around the world, it is crucial we make these marches, part of the #WorldAgainstRacism global day of protest for UN Anti Racism Day with demonstrations in 20+ countries, as big as possible.
Support for the demonstrations during the Twitterstorm flooded in throughout the day and since, including from national, regional and Equalities accounts for the TUC, STUC, WTUC, Unite, Unison, NEU, FBU, PCS, RMT, CWU, NASUWT, UCU, NUJ, EIS, USDAW, TSSA, NAPO, BFAWU, GMB, as well as organisations and campaigns including Stop The War, the People’s Assembly, People Before Profit, Peace and Justice Project, Daymer, Muslim Public Affairs Committee, SACU, Equality 4 Black Nurses, Black Liberation Alliance, the Africa Centre, Carribean Labour Solidarity, GR8 Gypsy Roma Traveller campaigns, NHS campaigns, United Yemini Community Scotland, local XR and Cop26 groups, and many others.
Thursday 10 March, as #MarchAgainstRacism trended on Twitter at number 5 in UK, local Stand Up To Racism groups all over England, Scotland and Wales, and anti racist activists in workplaces, colleges and communities were out campaigning, leafleting, postering, doing banner drops and other activities to publicise the marches on 19 & 20 March (see picture gallery below)
With one week to go, Stand Up To Racism and the TUC are calling on all anti racists to get to their nearest demonstration on the day (everything you will need including details of each march and a shareable folder of materials and graphics is HERE) , tell everyone you know to join, and is calling on anyone who can volunteer to help on the day with stewarding, stalls etc, to contact us now:
