MARCH 4 BLACK LIVES – Justice 4 Dalian Atkinson

‘March 4 Black Lives Justice 4 Dalian Atkinson’ demo is taking place on Friday 9 July at 2pm in Victoria Square Birmingham.

PC Ben Monk was convicted on 29 June for the manslaughter of former Aston Villa footballer Dalian Atkinson. Monk’s conviction is believed to be the first time in modern British criminal justice history that a UK police officer has been found guilty of the manslaughter of a black man, according to Inquest, which supports the bereaved following state-related deaths. This conviction is hugely significant because it is a product of the huge mobilisations of the Black Lives Matter movement.

The Black Lives Matter mobilisations also influenced footballers taking the knee at matches and most recently England players taking the knee at their Euro 2020 matches.

Some campaigners are arguing that the 8 year sentence is unjust and too low for manslaughter. Join the demo to show your solidarity with Atkinson’s family who have experienced this terrible tragedy and have waited so long for justice.
