The Guardian journalist Gary Younge talked about the importance of people in the US and here in Britain coming out to oppose what Trump stands for. “If Trump builds a 50ft wall then we will build a 51ft ladder to welcome people” Younge argued.
Other speakers talked of the need to tackle racism and Islamphobia in Britain such as the discredited Prevent Strategy. UCL BME officer Sayeeda Ali said “when the government talk about ‘radical Muslims’ in practice they mean all Muslims.”
The meeting was called to build for the #MarchAgainstRacism on 18th March 2017 and to mobilise for this Saturday’s march against Trump’s #MuslimBan. The meeting was hosted by Stand Up to Racism and UCL UCU branch.
