The fascist AfD party has had an electoral breakthrough, with exit polls predicting 19.5% of the vote in the snap German elections.

The AfD is a party led by fascists. The AfD leading figure Bjorn Hocke has been convicted for his use of the Nazi stormtroopers slogan “Everything for Germany”. It was also revealed that the AfD met with Nazi organisation Generation Identity to discuss mass deportations of German citizens.

Elon Musk, who performed a Nazi salute at Trump’s inauguration, soon after spoke at an AfD rally in Halle where he suggested that Germans were too apologetic about the Holocaust.

Reform UK party chairman Zia Yusuf has also said that Reform UK can “learn from Germany’s AfD” on how to “boost vote”.

Antifascists in Britain are saying that the results in Germany are another warning. They complete a picture of the rise of the far right across Europe, surging in the polls and demonstrating on the streets.

Stand Up to Racism has called an emergency protest outside the German embassy in London in solidarity with German antifascists and to say never again.

Weyman Bennett, Stand Up to Racism co convenor said:

“The AfD wants to see Germany return to the 1930s. But antifascist resistance can stop them. The breakthrough will embolden every far right figure and fascist in Britain. We stand with those protesting the AfD in their thousands on the streets in Germany but also against people like Farage and Tommy Robinson who want to spread racism and hate here in Britain.”
