Esa Charles, the father of Rashan Charles, and Ginario Da Costa, father of Edson Da Costa, will be speaking together on their sons’ tragic deaths at a vigil outside Stoke Newington Police Station at 2pm, Saturday 29 July.
Edson Da Costa became unconscious while being detained by police in Custom House, Newham on 15 June; his life support was terminated six days later on 21 June. Rashan Charles died while being detained by police last Saturday, 22 July.
Their deaths raise vital questions regarding deaths in police custody, particularly the disproportionate number of people of black and ethnic minority origin who have died while in police custody or being detained by officers.
The press are invited to attend the vigil to record the joint statement of the families of Rashan Charles and Edson Da Costa.
