PRESS RELEASE – FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Saturday 13 July Anti racists horrified by disturbing death threat stunt by Alt Right group Generation Identity today at Tower of London |
Alt Right group Generation Identity (GI) have today enacted a mock execution of Stand Up To Racism activists, using the anti racist campaign’s own ‘Migrants and refugees welcome’ placards in a deeply disturbing public stunt outside the Tower of London. A tweet from those involved in the stunt reads “Globalists and open borders fanatics are exposing us to terrorists and dangerous criminals. Every single life lost as a result of terrorism is on their hands. Close the borders, protect our citizens!“ GI have a track record for pushing an agenda of virulent racism and are a significant flank of the emerging far right movement here and across Europe, the US and internationally. In November last year they dyed a fountain on Bristol university campus red while playing Enoch Powell’s notorious ‘Rivers of Blood’. At least 24 universities around the UK have seen some form of GI activity, ranging from stickering to elaborate ‘stunts’ such as their horrifying Bristol action. GI leader in Austria, Martin Seller, was banned from entering Britain last month on grounds of public security. He accepted a donation of €1,500 from Brendan Tarrant, the man charged with the murder of 51 people in the Christchurch racist massacre carried out in New Zealand in March 2019. Fascist ‘Tommy Robinson’, who was sent down last week and is now in Belmarsh prison for contempt of court, read out Sellner’s speech at speakers’ corner in March 2018. Sellner had been invited then to speak by UKIP. In this current climate of polarisation and the rise of a far right movement that led to the murder of Jo Cox, anti racists are sounding the alarm that this kind of threat cannot be tolerated in our society. Weyman Bennett, co convenor Stand Up To Racism, said “We should stand united against fascist threats. In 2015, death threats started to be directed at Walter Lübcke, who defended the German refugee policies. On 2 June 2019 a far right terrorist murdered him. “Generation Identity is part of a network that has fermented ideas against basic humanitarian support. We have stand against those who seek to silence us. We will always stand against racism, Islamophobia and Antisemitism.“ Julie Sherry, national organiser, Stand Up To Racism, said “The Alt Right Generation Identity who carried out this horrific stunt failed to see the irony, nevermind the disgusting racism, in their claim that those who say migrants and refugees are welcome are responsible for every act of terrorism – what about the terrorist murders and attacks carried out by the far right? What about the fact that Generation Identity leader Sellners accepted money from the killer of 51 people in Christchurch Newzealand? “From Finsbury Park Mosque, to Christcurch, to Pittsburgh to Charlottesville to Charleston–we have seen a rise in violent attacks carried out by the far right. “The horror of the Holocaust was able to take place because nasty far right forces like these were able to gain the oxygen they needed to grow. We need a mass, united and broad anti racist movement that can suffocate these divisive politics, as a matter of the utmost urgency, wherever its ugly head rises.” For further comment – Email info@standuptoracism.org.uk |
