Anti-racists organise counter-demonstration against Tommy Robinson on Sunday 6 May

On Sunday 6 May Tommy Robinson and the ‘Democratic Football Lads Alliance’ (DFLA) are holding a demonstration in Central London.

The gathering represents an amalgamation of open fascist, Islamophobes and football firms around the DFLA who in recent weeks have been working hand in hand with the leaders of UKIP.

They have abandoned initial plans to march from Speakers corner to the HQ of twitter (who had banned Robinson) and now plan to gather in Whitehall near the Cenotaph.
A statement condemning the far right event has been backed by leaders of some of Britain’s biggest unions including Dave Ward (CWU) Kevin Courtney (NEU) and Mark Serwotka (PCS), Guardian journalist Gary Younge, Daniel Zeichner MP, Claude Moraes MEP, Alex Mayer MEP, leader of Camden Council Georgia Gould and Assistant manger Cambridge City Neil Midgely.
At the height of the Windrush Generation the idea that racists and organised fascists like Robinson will attempt to gather around the Cenotaph is a disgrace. The scandal has highlighted the enormous role, in war and peace, that Commonwealth Citizens and immigrant communities have played in this country.
Anti-racists and anti-fascists will not allow those who want to target those very same migrant communities to take over the centre of multicultural London without opposition.
There is nothing democratic about the so-called Democratic Football Lads Alliance. It is simply an attempt by hard right fascists, racists, Islamophobes and anti-Semites, to build a street movement like the English Defence League.
UKIP cannot claim it is not a racist organisation when it supports such organisations and addresses their events. Anti-racists have a duty to stand up to such hatred.
Stand Up To Racism and Unite Against Fascism will be assembling at 2pm, Downing Street event here

Statement:

On Sunday 6 May, fascist EDL founder Tommy Robinson and the racist ‘Democratic’ Football Lads Alliance (DFLA) have organised a so-called ‘day of freedom’ for racists and Islamophobes in London.
Across Europe racist and fascist organisations are receiving growing support at a level not seen since the 1930s. Robinson & Co are seeking to use Islamophobia as a way of rebuilding the far right movement in Britain.
Tommy Robinson is a notorious racist who founded the far-right English Defence League, and has links with fascist organisations. He has associated with alt-right organisations, and racists like Katie Hopkins. Robinson, the DFLA and their supporters want to come to London to spread racism and Islamophobia. They plan to hold a rally at Speakers’ Corner.
We give our support to the protest called by Stand Up To Racism and Unite Against Fascism to oppose them.
