On Saturday 31 October, neo-nazi thugs decided the best thing they could do with their day was take a trip to Freedom Bookshop in Whitechapel, and threaten and attack the volunteers and visitors to the shop.
The 15 or so masked up men filmed themselves spouting nonsense about “degenerate books” and making Hitler salutes. The volunteer locked the shop, a passerby confronted them and half the group fled. The man defended himself and was punched once before the rest of the group made their escape down Aldgate East tube.
Since then our heart has been warmed by the many expressions of solidarity.
This Saturday, 7 November, the bookshop held a solidarity rally in the nearby Altab Ali Park.
It was attended by anti fascists and anti racists including local Stand Up To Racism groups
