The Sunak government is attempting to use racism and scapegoating to divide and rule our side amidst the ongoing cost of living crisis.
The scapegoating of refugees and migrant workers is all about finding someone to blame for their disastrous policies.
If they succeed in winning the arguments it will immensely weaken our ability to resist attacks on trade union members and the workplaces and communities they defend.
Unity is our strength, racism is all about dividing us in the workplace and weakening our collective response to the cost of living crisis. Tory rhetoric has emboldened a new far right in Britain.
This is a very real threat as we are seeing growing success for racist and fascist groups across Europe.
While the far right uses racism to win an audience it also wants to attack organised workers and any kind of democracy.
In the wake of the Black Lives Matter movement we have seen the development of a new generation of black and anti-racist activists in the trade unions.
This is a positive development that will strengthen the whole movement.
So how do we maintain our unity in the face of government rhetoric and far right mobilisations?
How do we make our workplaces a fortress against division and promote a positive anti-racist agenda?
