Tommy Robinson is intending to bring his message of hate to Telford town centre on 29th January 2022. This a a cynical attempt to use the appalling crime of child sexual exploitation to further his racist and fascist agenda. Whilst we resolutely support justice for the victims in Telford we oppose racist attempts to stigmatise one community.
Victims & perpetrators of child sexual exploitation come from all communities. A recent independent enquiry into child sexual abuse states “there is no simple link between race and child exploitation”, rejecting the myth that sexual exploitation only involves Asian or Muslim men exploiting white girls. All victims of sexual exploitation deserve justice and we condemn and seek prosecution of all those responsible for these crimes regardless of their ethnic or social background.
Robinson has a record of and convictions for violent attacks. His fascist English Defence League brought terror to Muslim communities across the UK and in 2011 he threatened the whole UK Muslim community.
Robinson wants all Muslims deported and stated ‘I’d personally send every adult male Muslim that has come into Europe over the last twelve months back tomorrow’ (2016). Robinson has the support of various far right fascist and white supremacist groups and his social media messages have been cited by the Police as encouraging racial hatred.
Stand Up to Racism are sending an open letter to be submitted to Telford & Wrekin Council demanding they provide no space for racism and, if he comes, we will mount a counter demonstration.
