Anti racists say intimidating behaviour by ‘masked thugs’ is a tactic reminiscent of those used by fascist organisations in the 1930s

Wakefield Stand Up To Racism was appalled and outraged to learn that masked thugs attempted to invade the regional Labour Party office in Wakefield on Tuesday of this week.

Wakefield Stand Up To Racism said:
“When denied entry they started filming people entering and leaving the office, clearly in an attempt to intimidate. We understand they did not identify themselves as being from any particular organisation but believe that it is very unlikely that this is not connected to the current by-election in which three racist or fascist candidates are standing – a Britain First candidate, plus the former joint leader of Britain First, Jayda Fransen, standing as an independent, and a candidate for the English Democrats.

“This sort of intimidating behaviour poses a serious threat to the labour movement and marks a completely unacceptable tactic reminiscent of those used by fascist organisations in the 1930s to threaten and intimidate their opponents. It must be unequivocally condemned by any democratic organisation worthy of the name.”

In this by-election campaign Stand Up To Racism is not calling for a vote for any particular party or candidate but is organising stalls, leafleting and other activities urging Wakefield electors to reject racist and fascist candidates and to help keep Wakefield racist and fascist-free.
